What is a dog toilet grass mat?
A piece of real artificial grass, cut to size, that gives your dog a patch of grass to use as their toilet. It is the same 35mm PU-backed pet grass we install in full gardens across Northern Ireland — cut into a mat instead of a lawn. There is no tray and no frame: it is grass, and it goes wherever you need it.
Where does the wee go?
Straight through. The backing is perforated and free-draining, so liquid passes through the mat rather than sitting in it. That means the mat needs to be somewhere liquid can drain away — a patio, a yard, gravel, decking with gaps, a drain, or on top of a tray you already own. It will not hold liquid for you, and it will not protect a floor underneath it.
Does it come with a tray?
No. We supply the grass, cut to size, and nothing else. We do not stock trays or potty frames and we would rather tell you that than sell you a mat you assumed came with one. Plenty of customers put ours on a tray they already have; plenty more use it straight on a patio or in a yard.
Will it smell?
Any surface a dog uses repeatedly will smell if the residue is left to build up — that is true of real grass, concrete and every artificial grass on the market, including ours. What helps is that liquid drains through rather than being held in the backing, so rinsing works: hose it down, lift solids off as normal, and use a diluted pet-safe disinfectant now and then. We are not going to tell you it is odour-free, because we have not tested that and nobody honestly can.
How do I clean it?
Lift solid waste off as you would on a lawn, then hose the mat down and let it drain. It can be lifted and rinsed on both sides if you want a deeper clean, which is one of the practical advantages of a mat over a fixed lawn.
Can I have a size that is not on the list?
Yes — that is the part we are set up for. Tell us the width and length in centimetres, anything from 30cm to 200cm on each side, and we cut it to fit. Cutting grass to size is what we do all day for gardens; a mat is a small version of the same job.
Is it the same grass you use in gardens?
Yes. One grass for the whole range, and it is the 35mm Active pet grass we install in full gardens. If your dog gets on with the mat, the grass you would put down for the whole garden is the same product — which is deliberate.
How long does it take?
It is cut to order rather than picked off a shelf, so it is cut when your order comes in and then collected or sent. We will confirm timings on your order rather than promising a day on a web page.
