Artificial Grass Built For Life With Dogs
PU-backed grass for dogs, cats and high-traffic households. A PU (polyurethane) backing is less absorbent than traditional latex/SBR backing, which makes it better suited to dog urine and regular rinsing. Combined with good drainage and proper installation, it helps create a cleaner, easier-to-maintain lawn.
- PU backing — less absorbent than latex, recommended for pet areas
- Drainage designed to move dog urine away, not hold it
- 35mm and 40mm PU-backed pet options
- Simple cleaning routine: pick up, rinse, brush
- Is artificial grass safe for dogs?
- Yes. Our Active range is non-toxic, lead-free and EN 71 safety certified — completely safe for dogs, cats and children to play on every day.
- What is PU-backed artificial grass?
- PU (polyurethane) backing is the layer bonded to the underside of the grass, holding the fibres in place. Compared with traditional latex/SBR backing it is less absorbent, so it retains less moisture — which is why we recommend it for dog areas that get rinsed regularly.
- Is PU or latex backing better for dogs?
- For dog areas, PU. Latex-backed grass is perfectly good general-purpose grass, but the backing absorbs more moisture. PU is the less absorbent option, so it is better suited to repeated wetting, dog urine and regular rinsing.
- Does dog urine soak into artificial grass?
- It does not soak into the fibres — urine passes through the drainage perforations and away. The difference is in the backing: latex can retain more moisture, while a PU backing absorbs less. What sits underneath matters just as much, because urine needs a free-draining sub-base to carry it away rather than hold it.
- Will artificial grass smell of dog urine?
- It can if urine is allowed to build up — no grass is immune to that. PU backing helps because it retains less moisture than latex, but the backing alone is not the whole answer. A fresh pet lawn comes from three things together: a less absorbent PU backing, a free-draining sub-base, and rinsing the area regularly. Get all three right and odour is not an issue.
- Is there a completely non-absorbent artificial grass for dogs?
- No backing is completely non-absorbent, and we would be cautious of anyone claiming otherwise. PU is the least absorbent backing we supply and the one we recommend for dogs, paired with good drainage underneath.
- How do I clean it?
- Pick up solids as normal, then hose down the area. For a deeper clean, use a diluted pet-safe disinfectant once a week. That is all it takes.
- Can dogs dig through it?
- The reinforced backing on the Active range is built to withstand pets. With a secure edge it resists digging, even from larger, more energetic dogs.
- How long will it last?
- Both Active products come with a 12-year warranty and, with basic care, can last 15-20 years — even under heavy pet use.
